Prime and Backup Power for a Vietnam Textile Factory

3 x 625kVA Cummins silent generators synchronize with the grid to cut electricity costs and secure production.

The Challenge

The factory operates 600 weaving looms, air compressors, and climate-control systems across three production halls. Northern Vietnam's grid suffers from rolling blackouts during the dry season, causing monthly losses estimated at USD 120,000 per hour of downtime.

The client wanted a system that could not only provide emergency backup but also operate in parallel with the grid during peak-tariff periods to reduce demand charges. Noise limits were strict because the power house is 25 meters from the nearest residential building.

Our Solution

We installed three 625kVA Cummins QSX15-G8 super-silent generators in acoustic enclosures measuring 65 dB(A) at 7 meters. The plant is controlled by a ComAp InteliMains controller that enables grid synchronization, peak shaving, and automatic islanding when the grid fails.

During normal operation, two units run in parallel with the grid during the 9:00–17:00 peak window, reducing imported power by 1,000kW and saving approximately USD 45,000 per month in demand charges. When the grid drops, the system islands automatically within 8 seconds and carries the full factory load.

We also installed an exhaust particulate trap and acoustic barrier wall to meet the local environmental and noise regulations.

Since startup in February 2024, the factory has avoided all grid-outage production losses during the dry season. Monthly electricity bills dropped by an average of USD 45,000 thanks to peak shaving, and the system paid back its incremental cost within 14 months.

The environmental department recorded 63 dB(A) at the nearest residential boundary, 2 dB below the permit limit. The client has asked Jinjia Power to replicate the same design at their second factory in Hai Duong province.
